Integrating spiritual disciplines into the daily routine: Scripture
•July 15, 2009 • Leave a CommentChris Brogan has a good entry (as always) on starting the day, outlining the first five things he does each morning out of bed. Chris writes from a social media management and business perspective, not necessarily a religious one.
What about you as a believer/follower of Christ? How do you start your day? We all have our personal morning habits. We have that pattern of things that we do when we wake up in the morning. Perhaps we could call it our individual daily liturgy. That’s especially true of someone like me who’s borderline autistic, where everything has a pattern that makes us comfortable and the violation of which makes us uncomfortable.
Practicing the presence of God
So I’m thinking about this topic this morning. How do you integrate spiritual disciplines into your daily routine? In particular, how do you do this in the Internet/Web 2.0 age?
Integrating the Word
The web site for the English Standard Version Bible offers a number of feeds that you can use with your web browser’s RSS reader, or with services like Feed My Inbox to make it easy to incorporate scripture into your daily life. It includes verses of the day, verse memorization plans, devotionals, and nine different reading plans. Since part of my morning routine is to open the inbox and check email, my daily scripture readings from the Book of Common Prayer Lectionary are always in my inbox by morning for me to read and use to start my day—readings from the psalms, the Old Testament, and the New Testament.
I’m very interested in hearing from you. Comment about your daily routine and how you incorporate spiritual disciplines into your day.
